How to Seek Out Your Creativity in Small Ways

Hi Reader,

Last week in a collaborative newsletter with Brionna, we mentioned the need for all of us to intentionally seek out nervous system regulation.

How nervous system regulation doesn’t just “happen” during the times we are in; how we must search for it, make room for it; find it for ourselves and with one another.

And we don’t do this through large acts of grandeur but rather simple, consistent, sustainable tried and true methods.

And unsurprisingly, I feel the same way about creativity.

Many - if not most - of us have some sort of creative block or trauma from our experiences in childhood and just generally speaking, existing within a capitalist society that celebrates productivity over pleasure and results over process.

So when we add in extremely overt fascism and oligarchy, an unstable economy and very real threats to personal and collective safety, our windows for seeking and accessing our creativity can seem smaller and smaller.

Creativity might seem like the last thing that needs to be focused on right now when it seems like the world is on fire and every other day there is a new update that our body must brace for.

I think part of the problem is the sometimes limited view we have of creativity - that it’s something separate from personal healing and collective liberation.

That it’s either something “to do” when there’s more time (which most people already feel a scarcity around) or that it’s frivolous and takes away from “doing something” tangible to make a difference in this chaotic world.

But what if engaging with - and making time for - your creativity was the exact access point to your own healing and self expression as well as actively contributing to creating a more just world?

Let me give you some examples.

Last Friday I went to a friend’s partner’s play at a local theatre with an all black cast, black director and black writer.

It was an amazing show with an incredibly unique script akin to a black version of Interstellar and I was deeply inspired.

After the show when I was talking to my friend’s partner and we realized we had both studied the same type of acting technique, they shared with me that their theatre group is looking for more people and passed on the contact information along with the other shows that I could go see and support.

Supporting my friend, local theatre, black artists and my own creative expression all happened within a 2 hour time frame.

The next day, I decided to check out a black woman owned cafe that had been on my list and when I showed up, there was a delayed MLK celebration (due to the LA fires) also happening.

After having one of the most delicious turmeric lattes of my life while doing some work, I decided to check out the event before heading home.

And while waiting for the food I ordered from one of the food trucks, I saw that a local black yoga studio I love had a station set up, recognized the manager and went over to chat.

We ended up discussing the possibility of me doing EFT Tapping classes or workshops for their studio.

Again, supporting local businesses, black entrepreneurship and my own expression of the healing arts happened within a few hours.

Do you see what I’m getting at here?

Unsubscribing from these conglomerate corporations, supporting local economy, uplifting the art and business of historically oppressed people and expanding your own creativity and creative expression don’t need to be difficult, confusing or these completely separate things.

It can be very easy - and understandable - to be in a state of overwhelm and paralysis right now….

Confused about how to operate in your own life let alone how to contribute to a better world.

And that’s where these systems, these powers that be, gain and maintain their power……when we stay overwhelmed; frozen; debilitated.

This is why we focus on the small things; the things we do have control over; the ways that we can cultivate our joy, directly shift our own life and the environments and people directly around us.

And this is a big intention behind The Everyday Artist Community and one of its core truths:

Small steps create sustainable creativity: Tiny actions count. Progress over perfection. Every creative moment matters.

Because if we can do that with our creativity, we can apply that to other parts of our life and to the world beyond us.

If you’re interested in a low commitment, yet sacred, space to explore your creativity through play, nervous system regulation and gentle accountability, The Everyday Artist Community opens its virtual doors next Wednesday, March 12th.

Simple Uncomplicated Methods, Big Impact:

  • Weekly time to move through creative blocks with EFT Tapping and play with your creativity in whatever way you choose
  • Monthly themed group EFT sessions
  • Monthly creative guest speakers

And for accessibility, there are 3 pricing options.

If you’ve been wanting to actively seek out your joy, engage with your creative curiosities, finally put time towards that project you’ve been thinking about and move through creative blocks, this is the space for you.

Alright, that’s all for me for today.

If you have questions as always please feel free to reach out.

Sending you lots of rest and care,

Bianca

Hi Reader, Between today's Full Moon in Leo and deep creative inspiration from Kendrick's absolutely iconic Super Bowl performance, I am taking the metaphoric mic for a moment 🎤. It's story time - and this one's about ancestry, legacy, creative rebellion and liberation. (If you want to skip ahead, you can read more about The Everyday Artist Community here). This is a 2 part newsletter with part 2 being sent today. Hi Reader, Before diving in, I just way to note that.........things feel very.......strange right now. Like we are suspended in the air or missing a puzzle piece or waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's a bit.......eerie. If you feel this, just know you are not alone. I feel it and many people I talk to also feel it so I just wanted to name it. Anyways, continuing on to this week's writing. If you read last week’s newsletter then...

This is a 2 part newsletter with part 1 being sent today. Hi Reader, How you holding up? How is your nervous system post election? It's been a pretty crazy last week or so to say the absolute least. But I have to be honest........in the days leading up to, during and after the election I found myself mostly regulated, discerning and intentional with my information consumption, energy, actions and people I was surrounded by. That regulated part might surprise you given what we were all...
